Trump Urges Representatives to ‘Act Quickly’ as Discussions Set to Begin in Egypt

What’s in Donald Trump’s 20-Point ‘Resolution Strategy’ for Gaza?

Provided that the two parties accept a comprehensive set of terms, the end of fighting will be followed by the liberation of all individuals held by Hamas, whether deceased or surviving, “in under three days” of the Israeli government formally approving the arrangement.

As a trade for the freeing of captives, the Israeli state would release 250 Palestinians currently serving life sentences and an additional 1,700 Palestinians in Gaza detained since the conflict started on 7 October 2023 following the fatal Hamas offensive on Israel.

For each captive from Israel whose remains are handed over, Israeli officials will hand back the remains of 15 deceased Palestinians.

The plan does not mandate a complete Israeli pullout ahead of the captive release. Instead, Israeli forces would withdraw to an established boundary, inside the Gaza area, to get ready for a hostage release.

This initiative states that every military action, such as air strikes and shelling, will be paused in the course of the release process and front lines will be maintained until “requirements are satisfied for the gradual total pullout”.

When all hostages are liberated, clemency will be awarded to individuals associated with Hamas – the armed Islamist faction that Israel’s prime minister, Netanyahu, has frequently sworn to destroy – who agree to peaceful coexistence and to decommission their weapons.

Individuals who desire to depart Gaza territory will be provided with protected movement to countries who have consented to accept them.

This twenty-point proposal envisages the Gaza Strip as “a region cleared of extremism and terrorism that poses zero a risk to adjacent states”. Additionally, it declares the territory will be “redeveloped for the welfare of the inhabitants of Gaza, who have experienced immense suffering”.

Crucially, and in defiance of the outlook of certain Netanyahu’s far-right coalition partners, Israel will avoid occupying or annex the region, which was the location of 21 settlements from Israel before their populace was removed in 2005.

Furthermore, not anyone be compelled to depart Gaza, the plan promises. Those who want to exit will be permitted to do so without restriction and permitted to return.

Hamas as an entity will not be permitted any role, “directly or indirectly”, in the future governance of the area.

Donald Trump Calls on Delegates to ‘Act Quickly’ as They Assemble in Egypt for Gaza Negotiations

Donald J. Trump has called on Hamas and Israeli negotiators gathering in Egypt for crucial talks aimed at halting Israel’s war in the Gaza Strip to “accelerate progress,” adding, in statements on Sunday, that there had been “very positive” talks.

The US president commented:

There have been highly favorable discussions with Hamas representatives, and States from across the planet (Arab, Muslim, and everyone else) during the weekend, to release the Hostages, end the War in the Gaza region but, even more significantly, ultimately secure long-desired peace in the area of the Middle East.

These discussions have been highly productive, and advancing swiftly. Expert delegations will reconvene Monday, in Egypt, to tackle and clarify the remaining specifics. Sources indicate that the initial stage is expected to conclude in the coming days, and I am urging all parties to ACCELERATE PROGRESS.

The United States delegate Envoy Witkoff is expected to join the talks, based on reports from Israel, in addition to Israel’s negotiators and a Palestinian delegation headed by Al-Hayya, the deputy head of the administrative wing of Hamas.

Khalil al-Hayya is scheduled to meet with facilitators from Qatar and Egypt in Cairo, Egypt today in the morning, prior to negotiations in the Egyptian resort town of Sharm el-Sheikh.

However, the lead negotiator for Israel, Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer, is anticipated to participate in negotiations later this week, pending developments in the negotiations, based on multiple Israeli sources.

Hope regarding a potential ceasefire has escalated across the world, with officials from Western and Arab countries urging both Hamas and Israel to come to a deal. On Sunday, the German chancellor, Chancellor Merz, called Israeli PM Netanyahu and showed approval for the Trump initiative, labeling it as “the optimal opportunity for stability”, based on a official statement.
