The Young Sprinter Exits Following Fourth-Position Result in Semi-Finals
The promising global first appearance of the young athlete wrapped up after his exit in the qualifying heats of the global athletics event in Tokyo.
The 17-year-old placed fourth in his round, behind victor Bryan Levell, and did not earn the extra spots based on time up for grabs posting a time of 20.36sec.
His time was slightly off than the 20.23 he achieved in his preliminary race, and far from the 20.02sec he set to break his own country's best in a meet in the Czech Republic this past June.
Although he was unable to surpass his career-best time in the championships, his showings over the past two days constitute a solid debut at a global meet for the high school senior.
The athlete was the most youthful competitor in the 200m at the World Championships in Tokyo. He is returning to Brisbane to complete his final school examinations.
Additional Results from the Championships
Claudia Hollingsworth and Caldwell progressed through the preliminaries of the middle-distance event. However, Hull, having already earned a third-place in the metric mile, fell in the initial lap following a collision in the pack. She has appealed, and the outcome will be determined soon.
The final day will be the debut instance a pair of Australian women have competed in a 5000m medal event at a world event following Davies and Linden Hall qualified from their race. Davies, placed third, and her teammate – after previously competed in a preliminary and semifinal in the 1500-meter recently – came in in seventh place just behind her.
In the javelin throw, McEntyre finished twelfth in the medal round following failing to replicate his top throw of 80.03 from the preliminaries earlier this week.
